Dubai is definitely one of the biggest
sailfish destinations in the world. When it becomes known out there at last that
skippers like Andre DeMaré and Chris Deane from "Ocean
Explorer" from the Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Resort & Marina had an
average sailfish catch ratio between 5 and 6 / trip during the last two years,
all you billfishers will pile up in Dubai to catch the sailfish of your lifetime
very soon.

The warm and shallow waters of the Arabian Gulf
provide plenty of plankton for the vast shoals of sardines that are followed not
only by sailfish. Sea conditions are calm with good visibility and the sailfish
are caught approximately 30 - 40 miles offshore in only 30 meters of water.

Other fish that are caught in the gulf much
nearer to all the marinas are kingfish, queenfish, dourado (dolphin), long tail
tuna, giant trevally, bonito, spanish mackerel, cobia and barracudas that you
sometimes even try to get rid of for sailfish reasons. We also saw blue sharks.
Shore fishing provides you with barracuda, big saltwater catfish, stingrays and
guitarfish, sometimes various species of shark.

The fishing season runs from October till May,
what is supposed to be Dubai´s winter. Thus the temperatures range between 25
and 30°C (but going out for serious fishing at 7:00 a.m. means the real cold
till 10:00 a.m.!) what provides non-fishers with excellent conditions for
activities like any other kind of watersports, golfing, shopping the countless
malls and souks, going out to the desert or just "extreme beaching".
So talking your non-fishing partner into some fishing holiday to Dubai will be
really easy! Plus, Dubai is one of the safest destinations in the world, what
means you can just go out fishing and don´t have to be afraid about your loved
ones!

Basically, every beach hotel in Dubai has fishing
facilities, but the best are the all new LE MERIDIEN MINA SEYAHI RESORT &
MARINA with "Ocean Explorer" and "Ocean
Luhr" and the DUBAI CREEK GOLF & YACHT CLUB with "Sneak
Away". Also the luxurious BURJ AL
ARAB / JUMEIRAH BEACH HOTEL and the JEBEL ALI
HOTEL & GOLF RESORT have their own marina and own deep sea fishing
boats.

What underlines the importance of the sailfish
destination Dubai is the 2nd place ranking of Chris Deane´s "Ocean
Explorer" in the world for 332
sailfish catches during the 98´- 99´ season.
Even our webmaster Mark (on the right beside
Chris) caught one
that seemed to be not too small somehow, imagine what you expert guys can do out
there with Chris or Andy...! And - just in case
that you are a novice angler, too, you will like it a lot, like we did.
