Cyprus

"Even
if you would go to the end of the world, you wouldn’t find a second island
like this one - Cyprus " – this
quotation of a cyprus citizen reflects the impressions of many visitors. Since
the occupation of one part of the island in 1974 through troups of the turkish
army, the island today owns to governments. On one part the independant
presidential Republic of Cyprus (greek), on the other part the turkish Republic
of Northern Cyprus, which isn’t accepted by any community of states except
Turkey.
Cyprus
is located in the eastern Mediterranean. The island exists of rough coastlines,
beaches, rocky hills and wooded mountains. The Troodos-Mountains in the Middle
of the country climb up to over 1950 metres and offer perfect skiing
possibilities in the winter season. Between this mountain range, the northern
coast hills running to the east as well as the country site in the east, the
fertile level of Messaoria stretches. The level of Morphou at the coastline of
the similar named bay is located in the west of the island.
The
official languages are Greek and Turkish, though the greek-cyprus dialect is
very different to the one spoken on the mainland. English, French and German are
often spoken in tourist areas. The majority is greek-orthodox, but there is also
an islamic minority.
You
will find a warm mediterranean climate on Cyprus. Hot and dry summer inland,
humid at the shore. Mild winter with showers. We suggest to wear breathing
clothes in summer and warm clothes as well as raincoats in winter. There are no
special vaccinations needed at the moment.
