Nearly
no other country can surpass Indonesia on variety. More than 17,000 islands are
building this small fascinating world like a collier of emerald round the
equator. The cultural variety of Indonesia is mainly stamped by Hinduism,
Buddhism, the Islam and even older nature religions which has been protected
like nowhere else in the world.
North-Sumatra
with its capital Medan is the most western gate to Indonesia. This country
across the Malayan peninsula is the one of huge mountains, waterfalls, and an
enormous lake – Lake Toba, 1,707 sqkm of size and 450 metres of depth.. The
main sight of South-Sulawesi is Toraja-country with its animistic cult of death.
And not to be forgotten the beautiful island of Bali – the island of gods and
daemons. Relax by spending a few days on the beach or take a trip to Tanah
Lot-temple or the forest of monkeys in Sangeh.
Indonesia

Geographics
The archipelago of Indonesia exists out of 17,508 subtropical islands with a
population of 205 million people on a total surface of 2 million sqkm. The
islands are situated along the equator between Indian and Pacific Ocean.
Climate
The average temperature on sea level for the entire region and the whole year is
approximately 25 to 28 degrees Celsius. The climate in the cities a little bit
above is cool and pleasant.
Best time of travel is between April and October.
Religion
& Language
90% of the population in Bali are Hindi, the rest of 10% is divided into Christs,
Buddhists and Moslems.
There are over 250 different languages and dialects spoken on the archipelago.
Official language of Indonesia is Bahasa Indonesia. English is spoken and
understood almost everywhere.
Conditions
for entering Indonesia
To enter Indonesia a passport which is valid for at least six month after
entering is necessary. A visa is needed for stays longer than two months.
Vaccinations
There are no special vaccinations required for Indonesia.
It’s recommended to vaccinate against typhoid and Para-typhoid as well as
hepatitis A and B.
Clothing
For March to October it’s recommended to wear light summer clothing (cotton)
For a visit to the higher situated mountain regions of Indonesia you should have
some warmer clothes with you.
Currency
The local currency in Indonesia is called Rupee.
