The DUBAI INTERNATIONAL MARINE CLUB, DIMC, now a facility of the all new watersports powerhouse five star LE MERIDIEN MINA SEYAHI RESORT & MARINA, is home of OCEAN EXPLORER, the 2nd best sailfish boat in the world by the ratings of the International Billfish Association. Andy de Mare´s Ocean Explorer is a 28 ft. (9 mtr.) cougar cat (Twin hull) sport fisherman, with an 11 foot beams, power is from twin 300 HP caterpillar diesels. Cruising speed is 30 mph (50 kph). Ocean Explorer has a stand up toilet and twin berth cabin.

The boat is equipped with G.P.S., eco-sounders, outriggers, downriggers and center rigger and has all safety equipment required by U.A.E. law. Fishing tackle consists of 12, 20, 30 and 50lbs outfits. Fly fishing tackle is available on request. This boat normally fishes with nine rods, two on outrigger, two on tag line, one on center rigger and two on flat lines.

Both the owner Andy de Mare and Skipper Chris Deane are the ones who sort of just smell sailfish. Of course, some technical equipment like G.P.S. & accunav and tons of skill help these guys to help you with catching the sailfish of your lifetime. We were on a fishing trip with Chris, and this dude seems to be everywhere - navigating the boat to the best places, preparing all the baits, hooking the fish for the novice angler and, of course, tagging and releasing the sailfish being caught, all at the same time! Chris is a fishing addict - you will please your fate when having joined him for a fishing trip! 

In the 97-98 Season (October - April) this boat caught, tagged and released 240 sailfish, with an average catch ratio of 5.7 Sailfish per charter: Two flyfishing charters were taken with the first catching three Sailfish, and the second catching four Sailfish. Best days in this season were 26th February - 22 Sailfish, 27th February 23 Sailfish and 28th February 22 Sailfish for a total 67 Sailfish in three days!!!
Other fish included were 157 Barracuda, 65 Queenfish, 36 Bonito, 21 Kingfish, 11 Trevally plus Cobia and Dourado. In 1998 Ocean Explorer won both the Yamaha Challenge and the Sailfish 98, a three day event.

In the 98-99 Season (Oct. - Apr.) Ocean Explorer caught, tagged and released 332 Sailfish (2nd best worldwide due to IBA ratings) with an average catch ratio of 4.23 Sailfish per charter. The best sailfish days were 27th November with 15, December 14th with 14 and March 21st with 15. Also this season, they saw Whales, Orcas, Humpbacks and Right Whales on six occasions.
Other fish caught included 191 Barracudas, 99 Queenfish, 56 Bonito, 42 Kingfish, 41 Sharks, 20 Trevally plus 9 Cobia.

The sailfish season is from October through April, but all other types of fishing are available all year!
