Thailand

"Thai"
is meaning “free”, if translated. And this mirrors the mentality of the
people living in Thailand: politeness, helpfulness and the well-known joy of life
belongs to the Thai people as well as their deep religious believe in
Buddha and their great respect to their King.
Antique artefacts, extensive sandy beaches, the beautiful nature, the pulsating
life in the big cities and the large variety in species under water offer
different possibilities for the guests to spend an unforgettable holiday in
Thailand.
Further the spectacular islands should be mentioned while talking about Thailand
especially Koh Samui and Phuket but not only because of their sandy beaches,
their colourful coral reefs, clear waters and national parks but also because of
their well prepared infrastructure and their luxurious hotel resorts.
Take a romantic walk on the Beach, a shopping tour with their variety of cheap
shops, haggle with the street-vendors or enjoy a culinary experience in one of
the many different restaurants Thailand is famous for.
Geographical
Location
Thailand, a tropical country with a population of about 60 Million and a total
area of approx. 514.000 sqkm. In the west and the north it borders on Burma, in
the North-East it borders on Laos, in the East it borders on Cambodia and in the
South it borders on Malaysia.
History
Founding the Sukhothai kingdom in the 13th century the Thai were
first united as an independent nation. Until 1939 this kingdom also was known as
Siam and has never been a colony by then. In the years after the second world
war it took quite long until Thailand could establish a democracy. During this
turbulent period the constitutional monarchy of succession stayed abutment for
the people. Then in 1946 when the young king Ananda died under mysterious
circumstances his brother and today’s king Bhumipol Adulyadej, Rama IX
accessed the throne.
Climate
Between March and Mai it’s the warmest (hottest) season in Thailand and
temperatures can climb up to 40°C . During the monsoon season from June to
October it’s a little bit cooler but the humidity is at approx 98%. In the
“cold” season from November to March the temperature climbs up to approx. 32°C
and the humidity is much lower than during the monsoon season.

it.

Conditions
of entry
To enter Thailand for a stay of up to 30 days only a valid passport is required.
For a longer stay an entry visa is required.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations are only required if arriving from an epidemic country. To visit
malaria endangered areas, like the northern borders to Burma and the
north-eastern coastline between Koh Samui and Kampuchea a malaria prophylaxis is
urgently recommended. Before travelling please contact your local tropical
institute to prevent against risks earliest possible.
Clothing
It’s recommended to wear light and comfortable summer-clothing. For the colder
season between November and February a light sweater is recommendable for the
North of Thailand because temperatures can drop to 10°C .
For official occasions and for dinner invitations in one of the first-class
restaurants, a jacket, a tie and leather shoes are highly recommended.
To visit a Buddhist Temple you should beware of wearing shorts and armless
shirts, mini skirts and a wide neck-line.
